A Place to Introduce Yourself
My real name is Jim. While I have many hobbies and interests, I only have a few passions, one of which is now chess. I have grown to love the game as it challenges my mind and keeps it active. Additionally, I have made many good friends from countries all over the world while playing chess through the Gameknot community. A friend introduced me to Gameknot two years ago. At that time I knew little more about chess than how the pieces moved. During my first 35 games or so, I lost every one of them excepting timeouts. Moreover, the friend who introduced me to Gameknot defeated me in all of our first 15 games. However, undeterred, I continued to play the game until my own strategies started forming. Now winning about as many games as I lose, I am beginning to seek a more serious level of the game. I have developed a need to learn as much about the game as I possibly can learn. I founded The Knights of Honor Chess Club to spur a love for chess through shared knowledge of the game and its tactical strategies. I’m hoping this club will provide an opportunity for others to explore a wealth of information regarding the game’s history, basics and various strategies which will ultimately help to improve their game.

My name is Phillip, I have been playing Chess for 3 years now and on a good day I am 1400. I collect Hardcover Chess books and I have almost 200 of them. I also collect Chess sets but I only have 30 of them. My goal in Chess is to be 1800. Also when I get older I would like to open a small Chess club.
|
|
Welcome Phillip
That you average in excess of 1300 after just 3 years of play is impressive, not to mention amassing 200 chess books and 30 chess sets by 29. I have no doubt your goal of reaching 1800 will be met. The Knights of Honor Chess Club was just created on July 15 replacing another one that never materialized. I have great plans for this club that will unfold as more members come onboard. As one of its first members, you will have the opportunity to mold it into the successful club I know it will be.

Sounds great. You should do some recruiting. I know one guy who will join if you message him. His name is nsdrguy. That will make 3 guys in the club. Before you know it there will 50 people in the club.

Hello

Re: Hello
You are most welcome! I checked out your team; you have obviously put a great deal of time and effort into its development. While I love mathematics (though I'm a bit rusty in my "old" age), I am currently a member of the Jedi team. This team has been very good to me, so I guess I will stick with it for now.

Welcome to the club, dariustheking! As I have iterated to tekoahbaer who has graciously accepted the position as a moderator, I/we will soon be posting relavent information pertaining to chess skills, history, etc.

:) Yes, I noticed you were a member of a team already. I would've asked you to join a long time ago, but I don't want to recruit players that are already part of another team.

Re: happyhiker
Thank you for your understanding. Hopefully, this club will provide you another outlet for the promotion of your ever-growing team.

Hello
Hello everyone. My name is Rodrigo, I'm a linguist from Mexico City and I have been playing competitive chess on and off for a while. I'm also a member of "The Club for Chess Openings" (a really great club), and I see that a couple of members of that club have already joined this one. I'm also the coach for under-1700 players for my team The Mathematics Nerds. Coaching is something that I truly enjoy, and so I'm thrilled to join this new club (I just hope we get someone with a rating of 2100 or so so that I can get some coaching myself!). If the team is figuring out who can contribute with what, I guess opening theory is my strong area. Cheers! Rodrigo

Welcome to the club, Rodrigo!
Glad to have you. Your willingness to help others through coaching is greatly appreciated. I know you will be an asset to the club, and I hope the club will help fine tune your chess strategies as well. I'm a little too "stretched out" right now to join another club, but I will keep The Club for Chess Openings in mind. I am always open to learning new chess strategies, and I'm sure others are as well. Again, welcome.

hello,
thank you happyhiker for your invitation. i never really played much chess before i found game knot a lil over two years ago. now i play almost every day. i dont really know any theory, openings, or strategies. just learning from trial and error. i hope this club will give me a good place to learn more about the game.

re: hello
I, too, first started playing Gameknot two years ago with little knowledge of strategy other than how the pieces moved. Check out tekoahbear's posting when you get a chance. He is offering a means of mentoring one's gameplay. Also, check the forum from time to time as I will soon be posting chess principles, and I expect others to do the same.

Hello
Thanks Jim for starting this club and inviting me to join. I've known how the pieces move in chess for most of my life, having learned at an early age from my father. i never took more than a passing interest in the game and do not really know much in the way of strategy, openings or theory. I too like monk512 play by the seat of my pants. Since joining Gameknot I've been playing most every day, much to my wife's dismay. Some of my other interests include No-Limit hold 'em poker, Risk and scrabble indoors. Outdoors I enjoy fishing, swimming and an occasional softball game. I work in the HVAC industry as an operations manager for a local company for the past 7 years. Prior to that i worked in the agriculture industry for 15+ years and also sold insurance and sunrooms (ugh).

Re: Hello (from opsmgr)
You are most welcome. I, too, play by the seat of my pants. I'm hoping through this club we can all learn together. Yes, my wife stays in distress over my "obsession" with the game as well. I've been known to spend in excess of 40hrs per week on Gameknot. Occasionally, it gets the best of me and I have to take a break, but basically I can't get enough of it. You are a man after my heart. I also enjoy Scrabble inside and hiking (every chance I get when not playing chess), fishing, swimming and camping outside.

In the past two years, we've made it to the State level middle school tournament, and this year we're hoping to come out in 3rd or 4th place. Thanks happyhiker for making this club and I'm excited to be a part of it =D

Introducing myself
Hi all... My profile is in Italian, becouse is much easier for me to write in this language. I play as a hobby since so many years, that I fear it won't be possible for me to improve "drastically" my skills. Nevertheless, I adore chess, and I hope to discuss some openings I "discovered" with you all. (Of course I know I didn't actually "discovered" anything. They are just the ways I feel more comfortable playing chess, after a lot of failed tries). My white favorite opening is the so-called London attack. The key moves (for white, and not necessarily in this order) are: d4, Kf3, Bf4, d3, c3 (Kd2), h3, g4 and, if blaks puts his bishop in d6, Ke5, with the intention to re-take with the d4 pawn. Of course this is a short resume. My black favorite is, to e2-e4, d7-d5. The more problematic white move is exd4, after this I take with the queen, then normally it is answered with Kc3. I give check in e5, and then the key moves are: c6, Qc7, Bf5, e6, Bd6 etc, without fearing to exchange the white square's bishop for the white knight on the king side. I normally castle queenside, and accept to receive a strong attack, but normally I can bear it. It is a defensive plan, but seldom I win because of white excessive self-confidence attacking me. Of course, on the third move white can play d2-d4 or c2-c4 instead of Kc3, and I think these are better moves. But normally white doesn't! I am sure it is a losing scheme, but I am waiting to find the right line for white to destroy it, and I didn't found it so far! Would you try? Anyway, if somebody is interested in discussing those variant in non-rated plays, I will be glad to join here on the forum or on the board... :-) I have a lot of work, but normally I answer quickly (one or two days at most). Thank you for accepting me, Davide

Re: Introducing myself
Welcome Davide! While you may experience difficulty improving your rating, an elo of 1700 is one about which is only dreamed by most of us. Many, if not most, of the club's members adore chess as a genuine passion as well, myself included. You have some interesting opening moves. You may enjoy tekoahbaer's "tekoahbaer vs. club" thread in which he presents move scenarios and asks for votes as to subsequent moves to make. Please visit our other threads as well; feel free to add your input to the threads as well as start your own ones. Your input is welcome here. Thanks again for joining our group.

Thanks...
for your kind reply. I'll visit the thread you suggested as soon as possible. Davide
